What we do with what you send us
This page explains what this website, msa.mtu.edu, collects about you and what we do with it. The site is run by the Muslim Students Association (MSA) at Michigan Tech, a student organization. We collect very little, and only to answer you and keep you informed.
What we collect
- The contact form (on our Contact page): your first and last name, your email address, the topic you pick under “How can we help?”, and your message.
- The email signup (at the bottom of every page): your email address.
- Our two Google Forms (the event feedback form on event pages and Ask a Muslim on our About Islam page): they don’t ask for your name or email. Answers are kept in MSA’s Google account, read only by MSA officers and deleted after two years, and Google’s own privacy policy applies. Our imam reviews Ask a Muslim questions, with personal details removed, and our answers before they are posted.
- With each form entry, the form tool (Fluent Forms) also saves a few technical details: your IP address, your browser and device type, and the page you sent the form from. These help us spot spam.
We do not ask for anything else, and you never need an account to use this site.
Why we collect it
- Contact form: to read your message and reply to you by email.
- Email signup: to send you one welcome email and to add you to MSA’s email list, so you hear about prayers, events and news. An MSA officer adds your address to the list, msa-l@mtu.edu.
Who can see it
- Each entry is emailed to MSA’s inbox, msa@mtu.edu, which MSA officers read.
- Each entry is also stored in this website’s database, which only the site’s administrators can open.
- The site runs on a Michigan Tech IT web server and reaches you through Cloudflare, a service that protects and speeds up the site. Like most websites, the server and Cloudflare keep standard technical logs, such as IP addresses, to keep the site running and safe. We do not use them to identify visitors.
What we never do
We never sell, rent or trade your information. We do not share it with anyone outside MSA’s officers, except that a message asking to talk with the imam is forwarded to our imam, or when the law requires it. We use your email address only for MSA messages.
How long we keep it
We delete form entries, and their copies in the msa@mtu.edu inbox, after two years. If you joined our email list, you stay on it until you ask to leave.
Your choices
To see, correct or delete what you sent us, or to leave our email list, email msa@mtu.edu or write to us through the contact form. We will delete your entries and let you know when it is done.
Cookies and tracking
- No tracking: we do not use analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and the site sets no cookies for visitors. WordPress sets cookies only for the officers who sign in to edit the site.
- Security check: Cloudflare may set a short-lived security cookie if it needs to check that you are a real visitor, for example after a “Verify you are human” check.
- Fonts: our fonts load from this website itself, not from an outside font service.
- Map: the Contact page shows a Google Maps map of the MSA Community Center (our masjid). When you open that page, your browser loads the map from Google, and Google’s own privacy policy applies.
- Links: our Instagram, Facebook and YouTube buttons and our event videos open those sites. Once you are there, their own privacy policies apply.
Children
This site is for university students and adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has sent us information, write to us and we will delete it.
Questions and changes
Questions about your information? Email msa@mtu.edu. If we change how we handle information, we will update this page.
This statement covers this website only. Michigan Tech’s own websites have their own privacy policies. Last updated: October 2026.
