On the second day of Eid, families celebrated Eid al-Fitr and Nowruz together at the Portage Lake District Library. Pustakalana and the library hosted the celebration, and MSA was glad to support it.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting for Muslims, and Nowruz, the Persian New Year, celebrates the arrival of spring. On Saturday, March 21, both holidays came together in one celebration at the library, open to everyone and planned for children ages 3 to 10 and their families.

Children listened to picture books about Eid and Nowruz, made crafts and played Eid bingo. A scavenger hunt sent them around the library looking for pictures and real items linked to the holidays, from a crescent moon and a lantern to dates, prayer beads and a Haft-Seen table. The hunt came with treats, too. There was also a henna station, and a display where visitors could learn about Nowruz.

For MSA, it was Day 2 of our three-day Eid celebration. Thank you to Pustakalana, the Portage Lake District Library and the Wellness Cafe (part of the Elaine Bacon Literacy Program) for hosting, to our friends from ISA for the henna, and to every family who came to celebrate.
